Yarn needle.
GAUGE: 17 sts = 4”; 14 rows = 4” in pattern. CHECK
YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
Circumference: 17¾”. Hat will stretch to accommodate
larger head sizes.
Ch 50.
Row 1 (Right Side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 1, skip
next ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * across; turn—25 sc
plus 24 ch-1 spaces.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, sc in next ch-1 space, * ch 1,
skip next sc, sc in next ch-1 space; repeat from * to last sc;
sc in last sc; turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first sc, * ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next
ch-1 space; repeat from * to last 2 sc; ch 1, skip next sc, sc
in last sc; turn.
Rows 4-61: Repeat Rows 2 and 3 alternately for pattern.
Row 62: Fold piece in half with wrong sides together,
matching Row 61 to opposite side of foundation ch; ch 1,
working through both thicknesses at the same time, slip st
in each sc and in each ch-1 space across. Fasten off.
FINISHING: With yarn needle, weave a 10” length of
yarn through ends of rows at top of hat; draw up firmly to
gather; fasten securely. Sew opening closed if necessary.
Turn hat right side out and turn up edge for cuff.
