(note adm.)

When knitting raglan, beginners and not only knitters often have difficulties. Today we look at the so-called sprout in simple clear words.

If you look at almost any sweater, we see that the line of the neck along the front passes lower than on the back (even in the products under the neck), which is not surprising given the peculiarities of our organisms.

This difference in height between the back and the front knitting is called the sprout. Although the sprout in sewing is the neckline on the back.

When knitting a raglan on top for beginning knitters for some reason, it seems that the cone connected by them, due to the elasticity and seamlessness of the fabric, will sit perfectly on the figure.

We give recommendations on the calculation of the germ - what should be the elongation of the backrest in relation to the front.

HEIGHT

For children under 3 years old who still speak poorly and cannot complain about the lack of germ; for very thin people who only demonstrate - from 0 to 1.5 cm.

Teens - 3cm.

Sizes 42-50 - 5 cm.

Size from 50 and more - 7 cm.

For the hunched sprout may be a few more cm longer.

The method of determining the height of the germ from sewing, takes into account the individual characteristics. First, you need to measure the length of the back from the base of the neck, and then measure the length of the back from the 7th cervical vertebra (7 cervical vertebra, the most prominent point when the head is tilted on the neck, approx.). The difference of values and will sprout. Although the knitting is not quite the same value, but it serves as a guide.

You can determine the height of the germ by the formula:

Height of the germ = neck circumference divided by 6 minus 1 cm.
Formula from the book Martynenko "Knitting Technique"

Germ height = 0.14 * neck half-grip.

Example. Let neck girth 36cm., The density of knitting 24 rows = 10cm.

Height: sprout = (36 / 6-1) * 24/10 = 12 rows.

Sprout width = width of the back + loops of two sleeves and raglan lines + 2 loops.

For example, take the width of 72 loops.

It is necessary to tie on the back 12 rows more than on the sleeves and in front.
But after that, the pattern on the front will not coincide with the pattern on the back (unless of course the pattern rapport is not by chance a multiple of the height of the germ, in our example, 12 rows. True, it will not. Probably, no one should put up with this looking at the back and facing the same time, either adjusting the height to the selected pattern, or vice versa, choosing a suitable pattern.Note

that in the descriptions of models in journals the germ is often not mentioned, apparently, to simplify the life of the author.

The size of the germ does not depend on how deep the neckline is in the front. The sprout is knit even with a small freedom of fit, because the sprout is mainly due to the neck bending forward, which does not depend on the above factors.

KNOTTING SPRING.

Now about the knitting of the germ.

Knit raglan on top. If you just lengthen the back near the neck, I'm afraid it will suit very few people. Although there are such tally.

Knit raglan bottom. Here you can afford to lengthen the back by a few cm. Of course, you need to extend the raglan lines of the sleeves that will sew to the back by the same amount. As a result, the top line of the sleeve will become oblique.

It is possible to extend the back imperceptibly, for example, with the help of shortened or elongated rows.

So, we have 12 rows and 72 loops. We distribute these loops to 11 groups as follows:

72 = 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 12 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6

We perform the extended rows: we knit the central 12 loops, turn the work.

We knit 12 + 6 loops, turn the work,
Knit 6 + 12 + 6 loops, turn the work,
Knit 6 + 12 + 6 + 6 pet., Turn the work,
Knit 6 + 6 + 12 + 6 + 6 pet., Turn the work, and so on, in each row involving another 6 pet., until all 72 pet. will not be knitted, then return to the usual circular knitting.

Where to knit sprout? Immediately after the neck of the back or a few rows below; or after the coquette to the armpits.

METHOD of changing needles. When knitting in a circle, if the pattern is complex and there is no desire to do the calculations, you can use 4 pairs of circular needles, for example, two pairs of size No. 3 and two pairs No. 3.5. The front and the sleeves are knitted with smaller needles, the back and the back of the sleeve are knitted with larger knitting needles. Due to the greater density, the back will be longer (and wider, which is not included in the plans).

Raglan on top is especially convenient because you can try on the product at the beginning stage and see the flaws.

For crochet products, we also apply a sprout.
